At New Connections CIC, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to rebuild their life with dignity, purpose, and hope. We work with people preparing for release from prison — many of whom face complex challenges such as addiction, poor mental health, and social isolation — to help them recover, reconnect, and reintegrate into their communities.

Our care plans support individuals reintegrating into the community, setting out goals across ten focus areas to guide where extra support is needed and celebrate achievements, helping participants build the skills, confidence, and stability for positive, independent lives after release.

The Victims and Prisoners Act 2024 represents a significant policy moment for the IPP cohort. For the first time, there is a formal route to licence termination, but achieving it requires sustained stability in the community: managing addiction, maintaining mental health, meeting licence conditions, and building a life after a very long sentence. This requires the kind of long-term, specialist support that statutory services alone cannot provide. Funders who invest in New Connections are investing in work that sits at the heart of the government's own IPP Action Plan: giving individuals the support they need to reach that milestone, while equipping the professionals around them to help rather than hinder the process.

Expanding our peer mentor programme to support more individuals immediately after release.

Providing tailored guidance for ex-offenders to navigate housing, employment, and recovery.

Using research-driven insights to identify which interventions have the greatest impact.

Funding our IPP Awareness Training programme, which equips prison officers, probation practitioners, housing officers, and community workers with the knowledge and skills to effectively support this cohort, creating a more informed system around every individual we work with.

In 2024, we supported 11% of indeterminate-sentenced prisoners released, demonstrating the reach and effectiveness of our approach. Every contribution helps us give people the guidance, skills, and support they need to rebuild their lives.
