Client Case Studies

Here you can read more in-depth Case Studies of some of our clients' work with us.

Client G was convicted of murder in 2004 and received a life sentence with a minimum tariff before becoming eligible for parole. New Connections first made contact with the client in 2023 and began visiting them in custody later that year. We recognise that individuals convicted of murder can often face particularly challenging prison environments and may become isolated from family and support networks. Because of this, we believe it is especially important to establish positive and supportive relationships that provide motivation, encouragement, and opportunities for personal development.

Client F was serving an extended sentence following convictions for serious sexual offences in 2013. New Connections first made contact with the client in 2024, initially visiting them in custody later that year. We recognise that individuals convicted of sexual offences often face particularly challenging environments within custody due to the reactions of others. In Client F’s case, the client was held within a Category B prison, an environment which had the potential to be isolating. As a result, it was a priority for us to establish a positive and supportive relationship, ensuring that Client F felt motivated, encouraged, and supported to make positive changes.

Client E was convicted of a serious offence and sentenced to a life sentence in 2013. Following a significant period in custody, Client E was released on licence and engaged with New Connections to support successful reintegration into the community. Individuals serving long custodial sentences often face significant challenges both during imprisonment and upon release. In Client E’s case, the client had limited support networks and had lost contact with family members during custody. Recognising the importance of positive social connections in supporting rehabilitation, New Connections worked closely with Client E to develop a trusting and supportive relationship that provided encouragement, guidance, and stability throughout the transition into the community.

CLIENT C had undergone three reviews of his sentence since the tariff expiry date and two oral hearings before being released in 2020. He remained in the community for 16 months before being recalled due to poor behaviour relating to alcohol misuse.

CLIENT B was given an Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence in 2006 for Malicious Wounding (Inflicting GBH). The offence was a violent assault driven by excessive amounts of alcohol, with which CLIENT B had been struggling before the incident. However, what CLIENT B has struggled with most in his life has been substance abuse. Since his sentence began in 2006, CLIENT B has been recalled to custody four times, each due to relapses in his substance use.
